Keramiknámskeið í Sköpunarmiðstöðinni á Stöðvarfirði (english below)

Um námskeiðið:

Á námskeiðinu læra þátttakendur að vinna með keramik, frá hugmynd til fullbúins hlutar. Þetta er grunnnámskeið fyrir þá sem vilja byrja að vinna með keramik eða þróa færni sína enn frekar. Á námskeiðinu munu þátttakendur læra að:

• Vinna á keramikverkstæði og öryggis- og heilbrigðisreglur verkstæðisins
• Leirrennslu á rennibekk
• Leirmótunartækni; pulsuaðferðin, klípuaðferðin og plötuaðferðin
• Nota oxíða, undirliti og glerunga

Eftir að hafa lokið námskeiðinu öðlast þátttakendur aðild að keramikverkstæði Sköpunarmiðstöðvarinnar. Aðildin gerir þeim kleift að vinna sjálfstætt á skipulögðum vinnustofutímum fyrir hóflegt gjald. Athugið að þetta námskeið verður haldið á ensku.

Verðið er 70.000 ISK og innifalið er:

• 10kg af leir og allar brennslur
• 20 klukkustundir af kennslutíma
• Hópur A: 4. september – 28. september, miðvikudaga og laugardaga frá 19:00-21:30
• Hópur B: 4. september – 27. september, þriðjudaga og föstudaga frá 9:30 – 12:00 *fyrsti dagur 4.09 miðvikudagsins 9:30

Kennari: Arista Wilson er listamaður frá Virginíu og nýútskrifuð úr Maryland Institute of Art með Bachelor of Fine Arts í keramiki. Hún var í vinnustofudvöl í miðstöðinni í apríl 2024 og kenndi námskeið um gerð keramikhljóðfæra fyrir eldri borgara og listamenn í vinnustofudvöl miðstöðvarinnar.

Ceramics Workshop at Fish Factory, the Creative Centre of Stöðvarfjörður

Course Details:

The aim of this course is introduce participants to working with ceramics from an idea to a completed object. This is an entry course for people who wish to get started working with ceramics or to develop their skills further. During the course participants will learn to:

• Work in the ceramic workshop, safety and health guidelines.
• Throwing clay on a wheel
• Hand-building techniques using pinching, coiling and slab building
• Applying oxides, underglazes, and glazing techniques

Upon completing the course, participants will gain membership of the ceramic workshop. Members gain access to the ceramic workshop of the centre, allowing them to work independently during scheduled workshop hours for a moderate fee.

Please note that this course will be conducted in english.

Price is 70,000 ISK and includes:

• 10kg of clay and all firings
• 20 hours of class time
• Group A: 4th of September -28th of September, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 19:00-21:30
• Group B: 4th of September -26th of September, Tuesdays and Fridays, from 9:30 – 12:00 *1st class on Wednesday 4th  9:30

Teacher: Arista Wilson is an artist from Virginia. and a recent graduate from the Maryland Institute of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics. She participated in the Residency program of the Centre in April 2024 and taught a workshop on making ceramic instruments to other residents and community members from the village.

Our residency space is designed to be self-directed, providing artists with the freedom and environment to delve into their creative pursuits without external pressures. We offer the time and space for artists to focus on their practice on their own terms, without the obligation to produce specific outcomes for the wider community. This approach allows participants to embark on a personal and introspective developmental journey.

In line with this philosophy, we facilitate Open Studio events that are entirely artist-led. Last Wednesday, we hosted an Open Studio where artists shared their creative processes. The frequency and occurrence of these Open Studios vary; sometimes they happen weekly, other times just once at the end of a residency, and occasionally, they might not occur at all. The decision is left to the artists in residence, reflecting the self-directed nature of our program. We act merely as facilitators, supporting the current group of artists in whatever way they choose. This flexibility ensures that each artist’s unique needs and creative rhythms are respected and nurtured.

Uppbyggingarsjóður Austurlands hands out cultural and innovation grants yearly for individuals and projects in East Iceland. We were fortunate to receive a grant this year towards the salary cost of managing the Centre. We will also be hosting a Concert series in collaboration with Tónlistarmiðstöð Austurlands and this project got funding as well

Sköpunarmiðstöðin á Stöðvarfirði hlaut 57.5 milljónir í verkefnastyrk frá Samgöngu- og sveitastjórnarráðherra nú í apríl 2019 á grundvelli stefnumótandi byggðaáætlunar fyrir árin 2018-2024. Mótframlag Fjarðabyggðar vegna styksins eru 14.375.000. Fjármununum verður varið í viðhald og viðgerðir á byggingu Sköpunarmiðstöðvarinnar.

Uppbyggingarsjóður Austurlands hands out cultural and innovation grants yearly for individuals and projects in East Iceland. We were fortunate to receive two of these grants this year;  one for Tape Camp, a tape recording course taught by Chris Mara from Welcome to 1979 Studios in Nashville and a grant towards the salary cost of managing the Centre.

Sköpunarmiðstöðin á Stöðvarfirði hlaut 5 milljónir í verkefnastyrk frá Samgöngu- og sveitastjórnarráðherra nú í nóvember 2018 á grundvelli stefnumótandi byggðaáætlunar fyrir árin 2018-20. On Monday, February 12th we had the honour to host Uppbyggingarsjóður Austurlands Grant Awarding Ceremony in here at the Fish Factory Creative Centre. Uppbyggingarsjóður Austurlands hands out cultural and innovation grants yearly for individuals and projects in East Iceland. We were fortunate to receive two of these grants this year; one for the finalization of the Studio Silo and the other for reconstruction of the Factory.  We feel very grateful!

The Ceremony was beautiful and it filled our concert hall with inventive and cultural people from all around East Iceland. We had a nice time with old friends and new acquaintances. Also, we enjoyed two extraordinary musical performances by young local musicians Anya Shaddock and punk band Sárasótt.

So.. Finally we can introduce you to brand new Shared Studio space (95 m2) that we have. It is completely done now. We’ve expanded! Now instead of two artists in a Shared Studio we will have 6 available spaces every month! It means.. 7 artists every month in the Factory… Are you one of the artists, who is looking for a space? We’re open now for a Guided Tour in a Fish Factory – Creative Centre of Stöðvarfjörður. You will be guided by our Intern in all Creative Centre. Tour+Guide Fee is 500kr./person. Listakonurnar Julie Gendron & Emma Hendrix frá Kanada bjóða gestum og gangandi að taka þátt í gagnvirku hljóðinnsetningunni “Don’t, Stop” sem þær setja upp í Sköpunarmiðstöðinni dagana 13. og 14. ágúst. Húsið er opið frá kl: 13:00 – 18:00 báða dagana og heitt á könnunni. Julie og Emma hafa undafarin mánuð dvalið í Skálum á Seyðisfirði en hyggjast nú leggja land undir fót og kynna þetta bráðskemmtilega verk fyrir Stöðfirðingum.

Rosemary Hall er nýjasti gestalistamaður Sköpunarmiðstöðvarinnar en hún kemur frá hinni sólríku Kaliforníu. Rosemary mun hafa opna vinnustofu laugardaginn 13. ágúst frá kl: 13:00 – 16:00 og sýna gestum verk sín. Rosemary hefur heillast af þeirri fjölbreyttu flóru steina sem finna má í íslenskri náttúru og vinnur teikningar, málverk og innsetningar.

Við bjóðum alla velkomna í Sköpunarmiðstöðina næsta þriðjudagskvöld,
12. júlí klukkan 8. Þar verða með okkur 7 listamenn úr tvíburaverkefninu okkar, Fish Factory Art Space í Falmouth, litlum bæ í suðvestur Englandi. Rose Hatcher, stofnandi verkefnisins mun segja okkur frá því verkefni og þar verða til sýnis listaverk ýmiskonar sem hópurinn hefur unnið hér í Sköpunarmiðstöðinni. Boðið verður upp á súpu, kaffi og tónlist.
Hlökkum til að sjá sem flesta og eiga með ykkur notalegt kvöld.

Bæði verkefnin voru stofnuð árið 2011 í yfirgefnum frystihúsum – Rósa og Rose hafa verið í sambandi allar götur síðan. Vorið 2015 heimsóttu Una og Rósa Frystihúsið í Falmouth og kynntu Sköpunarmiðstöina fyrir íbúunum þar, svo nú er komið að ensku vinum okkar að gera slíkt hið sama.

This Tuesday evening (12th July) come and meet a group of seven artists from our twin project the Fish Factory art space in Falmouth, a small town in the south west of England. Rose Hatcher, the founder of the project will speak about the English Fish Factory from 8pm and there will be some music, artwork and soup for everyone. We hope to see you there.

Both projects started in 2011 in remote disused fish factories – Rósa and Rose have been in touch ever since. In 2015 Rosa and Una visited the Fish Factory in Falmouth and shared their experiences. Now the English Fish group have come to Iceland to continue the exchange.

A free concert on 17th June in Breiðdalsvík, on an old boat which sits on the land in the centre of the town. On this day, the National Celebration day of Iceland, two household names shall take to the stage. Neither need much introduction!…

Teitur Magnússon is a beatiful songwriter of effortless melody and verse. Last year he was nominated for the Nordic Music Prize along with Björk. His tracks were always on National Radio after the album’s release, and his songs have become the blissful earworms of all but a few Icelanders! When the time to Rock the Boat comes around, Teitur will be accompanied by his Eastern backing band comprising of Jón Knútur Ásmundsson on drums, Vinny Vamos on Bass, and Dóri Waren on keyboards. You will sing, you will dance, it will be beautiful!…

Prins Póló has gained the status of nothing short of Pop legend over the past years. In 2014 alone he got Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and even made it onto a film soundtrack! The music is Pop but with wonderfully raw and simple edges to it. Lyrically brilliant with a whit that is rarely heard in today’s music releases. He will grace the stage with full band and keep it kicking until the finish. You will dance and dance some more, you will be merry, it will be spectacular!!!!

Norska ambient bandið Digvalley mun stíga á stokk í Sköpunarmiðstöðinni laugardaginn 14. maí, en þeir eru á tónleikaferð um Ísland nú á vordögum. Húsið opnar klukkan 21:00 og tónleikarnir sjálfir klukkan 21:30. Aðgangur á tónleikana er öllum opinn, og miðaverð er miðast við frjáls framlög. Boðið verður uppá kaffi og fleirra auk huggulegheita :) Sjáumst!

Tónlist Digvalley er fögur, eilítið angurvær og sveipuð dulúð. Þeir sækja innblástur sinn í smiðju singer-songwriter hefðinarinnar og ambient rokks. Fyrsta breiðskífa bandsins kemur út í 19. Apríl nú í ár.

Hailing from Odda, Norway; Digvalley is the multi-instrumental music productions of Eirik Bøen Gravdal. Digvalley carries the contrast from singer-songwriting to majestic ambient rock, complemented with dark melancholy lyrics. They are going on tour around the entire island of Iceland this May and you can catch them here at the Fish Factory! A roundtrip of nine gigs!
The Debut album will be released 19th of August this year and we can’t wait to hear it!

Saturday, 2nd of April we had some workshops at the Factory for the students of Verkmenntaskóli Austurlands. It was such a great experience for all the participants. The workshops included performance, music, theater, meditation and green screen! So much fun! Below some pictures of this day:
