We are honoured to announce that the Fish Factory Creative Centre in Stöðvarfjörður has been officially recognised as the fourth cultural centre in East Iceland.
This project began in an empty, damaged fish factory with no certainty and quite a lot of stubbornness. In a multiverse of possibilities, this is probably the only world where an idea this wild actually worked.
Since then, the Factory has grown into a dynamic environment: a place where artists from near and far meet, where residents gather, where skills are shared, and where experimentation is part of daily life. Studios, workshops, residencies, performances, conversations — everything that happens here is shaped by the people who come through the doors.
Becoming a cultural centre recognises both the long-term effort behind the project and the collaboration that has supported its development. It reflects a shared belief that culture can thrive in rural spaces and that creative work strengthens communities.
We extend our deep thanks to the Ministry of Culture, Austurbrú, Fjarðabyggð and Múlaþing for their trust and support.
